The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has reopened the SME Fund 2025 “Ideas Powered for Business,” a package of grants aimed at SMEs and self-employed individuals based in the European Union who wish to protect their Intellectual Property rights.
Specifically, the program involves the issuance of bonds to partially cover fees for trademarks, designs, patents, and community plant varieties.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs can apply for this aid for new trademarks, designs, and patent applications from 20 October 2025 to 5 December 2025.
The EUIPO has reopened the following bonds:
- IP Scan bond (Bond 1): up to €1,350;
- Trademarks & Designs bond (Bond 2): €700;
- Domestic Patents and Prior Art Search bond (Bond 3): €1,000;
- European Patents and Legal Costs bond (Bond 3): €2,500;
- Community Plant Varieties bond (Bond 4): €1,500.
In Spain, Bonds 2, 3, and 4 are available for new applications, but Bond 1 for IP Scan is still not enabled.
There is a maximum limit on bonds, which are also awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is important to start the application process as soon as possible.
It should also be noted that expenses incurred prior to the notification date of the grant decision will not be reimbursed.
This aid can be processed through an authorized Intellectual Property attorney, facilitating the process and ensuring efficient management.
